You can't get up from sujood SAVE 50%

Thirty-four sujood a day if you pray all five. You have started putting a hand on the floor for the last few, and you have not mentioned it to anyone.

If three of these are true, this page is for you

Not symptoms. Just the specific things you have already noticed.

  • You plant a hand on the floor to get up from sujood. You didn't used to and you know exactly which month it started.
  • Fajr — you've begun praying it sitting down, and telling yourself it's because you're tired.
  • The stairs first thing. You go down them sideways, one foot at a time.
  • The knee clicks going into sujood and you feel it at the front, under the kneecap.
  • Two hours cross-legged at a gathering and you can't stand up smoothly at the end. Everyone watches you not be able to.
  • You have started noticing where the chairs are at the back of the masjid. You are thirty-eight.
  • Umrah — you counted the laps before it started, and then you counted them the whole way round.

One motion. No hand on the floor.

The specific things that come back, in the order they come back

  • Up from sujood in one motionNo hand planted, no pause on the knee, no second attempt.
  • Down the stairs forwardsNot sideways, not gripping the rail, not one foot at a time.
  • Fajr on the mat, not on the chairThe one that actually hurt to give up.
  • Two hours cross-legged, then standing up normallyAt the gathering, in front of everyone, without the arm of the sofa.
  • Tawaf without counting lapsBecause you stopped needing to know how many were left.

It is usually the tendon, not the joint

The pain going into sujood and the difficulty coming out of it are usually two different tissues. Collagen peptides are the raw material for one of them.

It is usually the tendon, not the joint
  • Patellar tendon The band under the kneecap that takes the load when you push up. Type I collagen.
  • Ligament The straps holding the joint in line. Type I again.
  • Cartilage The cushion. Mostly Type II — and NOT what our pouch is. We are not going to claim it.
  • Glycine · Proline The two amino acids connective tissue is largely built from. This is what 10g actually delivers.

What women taking it reported back

76%

got up from sujood unaided by week 12

84%

stopped taking the stairs sideways

89%

were still taking it at month six

Self-reported by Barakah Co. customers.

Connective tissue is slow. Twelve weeks, minimum.

We would rather lose the sale than have you quit in week two.

  1. Weeks 1–4 Nothing. Tendon turns over slowly — slower than skin, much slower than nails.
  2. Weeks 5–8 The stairs, usually first. Small and easy to miss.
  3. Weeks 9–12 Getting up off the floor. The one you are actually here for.
  4. Month 4+ Sitting cross-legged for a long evening without paying for it after.

Honest position: the trials we cite (Proksch 2014, Hexsel 2017) measured skin and nails, not joints. Research on collagen peptides and activity-related joint pain exists and is promising, but it used specific branded peptide preparations that are not our pouch. What we will say is what is uncontroversial: glycine and proline are the raw material of tendon and ligament, and 10g a day supplies them.

I was thirty-nine and I'd moved to the chair for Fajr. I went back to the mat in February. That is the whole review, that's the thing I wanted.

The stairs were the first thing. I noticed I'd walked down them normally without thinking about it, and then I stood at the bottom trying to work out when that had changed.

Two hours on the floor at my mother's, and I got up at the end like everyone else. I hadn't done that in about three years.

Individual experiences. Collagen is a food, not a treatment, and results vary between people.

What this is not, and we would rather say it here

This is not a painkiller and it is not an anti-inflammatory. If your knee is swollen, locking, giving way, or waking you at night, that is a physiotherapist or a GP, not a pouch — and the longer you work around it, the more you will end up working around. Cartilage is mostly Type II collagen; our pouch is Type I & III, which is tendon and ligament. We are telling you the limits of it because the brands that don't are the reason you are suspicious.

Questions worth asking

Isn't joint collagen supposed to be Type II?

Cartilage is, yes. Ours is Type I & III, which is what tendon and ligament are made of — and the difficulty getting up from sujood is more often the tendon under the kneecap than the cartilage inside the joint. If you have been told you have cartilage wear specifically, a Type II product is a fairer match and we would rather say so.

How long before I can get up unaided?

Plan on twelve weeks and be pleased if it is earlier. Tendon turns over far more slowly than skin. Weeks 1–4 you will notice nothing at all.

I'm on medication for arthritis. Can I take this?

It is a food and there is no known interaction, but ask your own doctor and do not stop anything you have been prescribed. Collagen is not a substitute for treatment.

Will it break my fast?

Yes — 9g of protein per serve. Suhoor or after maghrib.

Does it help the lower back as well?

The same tissue types run through the spine's ligaments, so it is plausible, but no trial we would cite measured that. We are not going to claim it.

Certified halal?

End to end, certificate on request. Most gelatin and collagen worldwide is porcine — 'halal friendly' on a label means nobody certified anything.
